About LMCs

LMCs exist for the benefit of all GPs, including sessional doctors and registrars.

An LMC exists by government statute and consists of independent members elected from local GPs to represent local GPs. It provides elected representatives to the National Conferences and the GPC (the central executive body of GPs) and is funded entirely by GPs through a  voluntary levy  currently of 0.6% of Global Sum (in N Ireland).

The Health and Social Care Board is obliged by law to consult the LMC on a wide range of issues.

Staff can help with all aspects of primary care, including:
GMS Regulations, Terms of Service and the SFE
GMS and PMS contracts
Partnership agreements, partnership problems & property issues
Professional standards, ethics, conduct and performance
Advice on local and national priorities for good patient care
Advice and liaison relating to secondary care, Board and Trusts etc
Individual, confidential help and support
Confidential advice on  personal matters
The LMCs are managed by democratically elected members who stood for election in 2009.  The Chairs and Secretaries of each LMC liaise directly with the Board on your behalf. The four LMCs are divided into constituencies and sub-divided into localities to better represent members – see details in the LMCs membership pages under the LMCS tab:
